28-year-old Jake Barker auditioned for The Voice with Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man". Managing to turn Adam, Shakira, and Usher, he picked Usher and he said Jake had an "incredible voice" and wanted to prepare him for the winners' circle. Jake was then paired against Stevie Jo for the first Battle Rounds, performing Steve Winwood's "Higher Love". The performance received praise from all the coaches, in particular Jake's falsetto.
